HK Kurbads eighth season in the Latvian Hockey League (OHL) ended with a loss in the semifinals

Although this time the comeback drama from 0-3 against our opponents HK Mogo did not materialize, we look back with satisfaction at our return to Latvian hockey in the season 2023/2024.

This OHL season was full of challenges, which, looking at the third place achieved both in the regular tournament and in the playoffs, offers a perspective to view from a different angle. This year, we take even greater pride in our roster, which allows us to appreciate the work of our sports school and its director Toms Bluks. Over a few years, Toms has created a complete pyramid system where now students have the opportunity to prove themselves at the highest level of Latvian hockey. We are also pleased about the ability to once again fill the Kurbads ice hall stands to the brim, organizing hockey festivities in Rumbula!

After a convincing victory in the quarterfinals against HS Rīga (3-0), HK Kurbads faced the HK Mogo team in the semifinals, where we fought for a place in the final. Kurbads has come back from 0-3 against the HK Mogo team once before. This occurred in the 2017 Latvian championship final, where the club triumphed in seven games, turning the series around 4-3, but this time it did not happen, and on the evening of March 19, with a score of 4:2, HK Mogo secured their place in the final.

At the end of the regular season, Kurbads also achieved eight consecutive victories, fiercely competing against nine teams from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. At the end of the 2023/2024 season, Artūrs Mickevičs was the top scorer with 50 points, followed by team captain Artūrs Ozoliņš with 49 points, and both forwards Aleksandrs Novikovs and Roberts Jekimovs with 47 points each.

However, hockey at the Kurbads ice hall is far from over – we now invite all fans to the sports school’s last games of the season to prepare for the Play-Off games. After a rest, we will return to setting new goals, ensuring our students have the opportunity to experience the best training processes with us and achieve the highest goals!

Thank you to our coaches, team, fans, families, friends, and supporters who never put down their drums, were present at every game, and cheered us on! A big thank you to: Storent Latvia, Sunly AS, Autoriepu nams, Joma Sport, Apotheka Latvia, Venden Latvia.
